Isaac is born – joy and wonder in 1. Moses 21

Divide:

In a distant land lived a man and a woman named Abraham and Sarah. Abraham and Sarah were very old and had no children. But God had promised Abraham something very special. He had said that they would have a son and would have many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. But Sara simply believed that she was too old to have a baby.

But what do you think? God can do everything! One beautiful day, when the sun was shining warmly and the birds were chirping happily, something wonderful happened. Sara had a baby boy! They call him Isaac because it means laughter. Sarah laughed with joy because she now had a little boy, just as God had promised.

Isaac was a very special boy. It brought a lot of joy to everyone. Abraham and Sarah were so happy about their little treasure. Friends and family came to celebrate the happy news and to see Isaac. Sarah said, “God has given me joy, and everyone who hears it will laugh with me.”

Isaac grew up and became a healthy and happy boy. Every time Abraham and Sarah looked at Isaac, they remembered that God had kept His promise. God loves all of His children and always keeps His promises.

Message of history

God keeps His promises, even if it sometimes takes a long time. He loves us and is happy when we are happy.

Bible passage

The story of Isaac’s birth can be found in Genesis 21:1-7 (Schlachter 2000):

“And the Lord visited Sarah, as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had spoken. And Sarah became pregnant and bore Abraham a son of his own age, at the appointed time that God had told him about. And Abraham gave the name Isaac to his son, who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him. And Abraham circumcised Isaac his son when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. But Abraham was 100 years old when his son Isaac was born to him. And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh; Everyone who will hear it will laugh with me! And she said, “Who would have said of Abraham that Sarah nurses sons?” For I have borne him a son in his old age!”
