A long time ago, Jesus was on his way to an important house. Many people crowded around him because they wanted to listen to him and see his miracles. In the crowd was a woman who had been very ill for twelve years. She was bleeding badly, and no one could help her.
The woman had heard about Jesus and knew that he did good and healed people. She thought to herself, “If I could only touch his robe, I would be healed.” Even though there were so many people around Jesus, the woman decided to push her way through to him.
Very secretly and quietly, she approached Jesus from behind and tentatively stretched out her hand. She only touched the tip of his robe, and suddenly she felt a change in her body. The disease disappeared, and she knew she was cured!
Jesus knew that someone had touched him, because he felt that power had come from him. He immediately turned around and asked, “Who touched my garment?” His disciples were surprised and said, “Jesus, people are crowding around you, and you ask who touched you?”
But Jesus continued to look around to find the person who had touched him. The woman was afraid, but she knew she had to go to Jesus. She fell down before him and told him the whole truth. Jesus listened to her lovingly, and instead of rebuking her, he smiled at her.
“Daughter,” Jesus said gently, “your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be free from your suffering.” The woman was overjoyed, and her heart was full of gratitude and joy.
Message of history
God sees our faith and rewards it. We can always come to Jesus, trust Him and know that He loves us and cares for us.
Bible passage
The story of Jesus and the woman who touches him is found in Mark 5:25-34.
“And there was a woman who had the flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered much from many doctors, and had spent all her possessions, and had no benefit from it, but had rather become worse with her. 27 When she had heard of Jesus, she came up from behind in the crowd and touched his garment; 28 For she said, “If I only touch his garments, I will be saved.” 29 And immediately the fountain of her blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her plague. 30 And Jesus, feeling in himself the power that had gone out from him, immediately turned in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” 31 And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd crowding around you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’ 32 And he looked around to see the one who had done this. 33 Then the woman came with fear and trembling, because she knew what had happened to her, and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. 34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace and be healed of your plague!”
