Once upon a time there was a man named Paul. Paul used to be not nice to the people who believed in Jesus. But then he met Jesus and became a good friend of his. He loved Jesus so much that he traveled everywhere to tell people about Jesus.
One day Paul was in a city called Damascus. He spoke a lot about Jesus and many people liked to listen to him. But some people didn’t like it at all and got angry. They wanted to catch Paul and hurt him.
These wicked people made plans to catch Paul. They watched at the gates of the city, day and night, hoping that he would come out of there. Paul couldn’t just walk through the gate because he knew they were waiting for him.
Paul’s friends wanted to help him. They thought about what they could do and had a very clever idea. At night, when everything was dark and quiet, they took Paul to a great wall. They put him in a large basket, tied a long rope to it, and carefully lowered the basket down the wall.
Paul shrugged his shoulders and held on tightly as the basket was slowly and surely lowered. So Paul was able to flee the city without the wicked men seeing him. He was saved!
Paul was very grateful that God had helped him, and he continued to travel to tell others about Jesus.
Message of history
God is always looking out for us and helping us in difficult times, even when things get dark and difficult.

The rescue of Paul in a basket over the city wall is described in Acts 9:23-25 :
“After many days, however, the Jews took counsel together to kill him. But their plot became known to Saul. And they guarded the gates both by day and by night, that they might destroy him. Then his disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall, letting him down in a basket.”
