Sermon on the Mount: The teachings of Jesus simply explained for children

Divide:

One day Jesus went up a high mountain. Many people followed him because they wanted to learn more about God. People sat around Jesus, and he began to tell them important things. This great discourse is called the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus said, “I want to tell you how you can be happy.” He explained that people who are kind, kind, and peaceful are very pleased with God. He said, “Blessed are the poor in God, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” This means that if we know that we need God, we are on the right path.

Jesus told people that they were to be the light of the world. Just like a candle that shines in a dark room and makes everything bright. He said, “Let your light shine before men.” This means: Show with your good deeds that you belong to God, so that people praise God.

Jesus also spoke about loving and forgiving. He said, “Love your enemies and pray for those who treat you badly.” This is sometimes difficult, but Jesus wants us to be kind, even to those who are not kind to us.

In conclusion, Jesus said that we should not worry. He said, “Look at the birds! God cares for them. And look at the flowers in the field! God makes them grow so beautifully. If God cares about them, He will take care of you too.”

The people were amazed at how Jesus spoke. They understood: Jesus wants us to love God, be kind to others, and not be afraid.

Message of history

Jesus shows us that we should trust God, love others, and let our light shine, because God cares about us.

Bible passage

The Sermon on the Mount is found in the Gospel of Matthew, chapters 5 to 7. Here are the opening verses in the Schlachter 2000 translation:

Matthew 5:1-12:

“1 And when he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.
2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are you when they reproach you and persecute you, and [lügend] speak every evil word against you for my sake!
12 Rejoice and rejoice, for your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

The Sermon on the Mount includes numerous other doctrines and passages in chapters 5 through 7 of Matthew’s Gospel.
