Stories with Tom and Hanna – Friendship strengthens!

Divide:

Friendship makes you strong

It was a rainy afternoon, and Tom and Hanna had invited Lukas and Emma to their home. Outside, the rain drummed against the window panes, but inside it was warm and cozy. “Let’s have an afternoon of games!” Tom suggested enthusiastically.

“Great idea!” shouted Lukas. “How about a race game with our game pieces?”

Tom took out the large playing field, and the children sat down around the table. Emma was a bit skeptical at first. “I’m not so good at such games,” she said quietly.

“It doesn’t matter,” Hanna said softly. “The main thing is that we have fun together!”

The game began, and soon there was a lot of laughter. Sometimes Lukas was ahead, then Tom overtook him, and Hanna and Emma also brought their pieces to the finish line. But suddenly it happened: Tom rolled a bad number and had to go back several spaces. His brow wrinkled.

“Oh no! Now I’m losing!” he cried disappointed.

Lukas patted him on the shoulder. “Oh come on, Tom, it’s not about winning. We play together so that it’s fun!”

Hanna nodded and took her little Bible out of the drawer. She turned the pages a bit and then read:
“Two are better than one: because if they fall, one helps the other up.”

“This verse reminds me that friendship is not about winning or losing,” Hanna said. “It’s about supporting each other – no matter what.”

Tom took a deep breath and nodded. “You’re right. It’s much nicer to laugh together than to get upset about the game.”

Emma smiled. “It’s just like Jesus and his disciples. They were a team, helped each other and were always there for each other.”

After this beautiful realization, the children continued to play without worrying about winning. They cheered each other on, cheered when someone had a good lap, and laughed together when someone was unlucky.

At the end of the day, everyone agreed: friendship made every game better – no matter who won or lost. And so they decided to have another afternoon of games soon – because everything was just nicer together!

Bible passage

A suitable Bible verse on the subject of friendship and community is:

Proverbs 17:17 (Schlachter 2000):
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother for trouble he is born.”

This verse underlines the importance of friendship, support and cohesion – values that are also experienced when playing together at home.
