Isaac is born – joy and faith in 1. Moses 21

Divide:

A long time ago, there lived a man named Abraham. God had made a special promise to Abraham. He told Abraham that he would become a father of many nations. But Abraham and his wife Sarah had no children. Both were very old, and it seemed almost impossible that they could have another baby.

But Abraham and Sarah trusted in God’s promises. They waited and hoped for many years. And then, one day, something miraculous happened. God kept His promise, for He never forgets what He promises.

Sara got pregnant! She and Abraham were overjoyed. They were so happy that God had thought of them and would give them a child. Everyone who saw Sarah laughed with joy because they had waited so long.

Finally, the great day had come, and Sarah gave birth to a son. They called him Isaac, which means “laughter,” because he brought them so much joy and laughter. Abraham was a hundred years old when Isaac was born!

Sarah said, “God gave me a laugh. Anyone who hears about it will laugh with me!” She was so happy that God had answered her prayers.

Abraham and Sarah loved Isaac very much. They knew that he was a special gift from God. They also knew that God especially loved their son Isaac and had great plans for him. Through Isaac, God wanted to do many good things for mankind.

Isaac’s birth showed that God always fulfills His promises, even if they sometimes come true in unexpected ways.

Message of history

God always keeps His promises, and we can trust Him, no matter how impossible things may seem.

Bible passage

The birth of Isaac is recorded in 1. Genesis 21:1-7:

“And the Lord visited Sarah, as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had spoken. And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son of his own age, at the appointed time, as God had promised him. And Abraham gave his son, who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, the name Isaac. And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. And Abraham was 100 years old when his son Isaac was born to him. And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh; everyone who hears it will laugh after me! And she said, “Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children?” For I have borne him a son in his old age!”
