Once upon a time there was a beautiful day. Peter and John, two good friends of Jesus, went to the temple. The temple was a large house where many people prayed. Outside the gate, which was called the “Beautiful Gate”, sat a man. This man was paralyzed from birth. Paralyzed means that he could not move his legs. Every day, friends took him there so that he could ask people for money.
When Peter and John went to the temple, the man saw them. He shouted, “Can you give me a little money?” The man looked with large, pleading eyes.
Peter looked at him kindly and said: “Look at us!” The man looked at them expectantly. He thought he would get money. But Peter said, “I have no money. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ, get up and walk!”
Then Peter took the man by the hand and helped him up. Immediately, the man’s legs became strong. For the first time he could stand! He jumped up, danced, and went to the temple with Peter and John. The man was overjoyed and praised God very loudly!
The other people in the temple were amazed. They knew the man who always sat at the gate and asked for money. Now they saw him running and cheering. They wondered what had happened.
Peter and John told everyone that Jesus was the one who had helped the man to walk again. They said that Jesus lives and loves us all.
Message of history
Jesus can do miracles, and he helps us. We should always trust Him, because He is with us when we need Him.
Bible passage
The story of Peter healing a paralytic at the temple is found in Acts 3:1-10:
“And Peter and John went up together to the temple at the ninth hour, at the time of prayer. And a man was brought in who had been lame from his mother’s womb; he was seated daily at the temple door, which is called the “Beautiful,” so that he could ask for alms from those who went into the temple. When he saw Peter and John entering the temple, he asked for alms. Then Peter looked at him with John and said, “Look at us.” But he looked at them expectantly, hoping to receive something from them. Then Peter said, “I have neither silver nor gold; but what I have, that I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk. And he took him by the right hand and raised him up. And immediately his feet and ankles became strong, and he jumped up, and was able to stand and walk, and went with them to the temple, walking, leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him going about praising God. And they recognized him that he was the one who had sat before the “beautiful” door of the temple for the sake of almsgiving; and they were filled with amazement and amazement at what had happened to him.”
