Once upon a time there was a man named Elijah, and he loved God very much. God had given him an important task. Elijah had something to say to King Ahab, and that was that it would no longer rain. No rain meant no water and no food from the garden.
God said to Elijah, “Do not be afraid. Get away from here and hide by the Kerit stream. There you will be able to drink water.” Elijah listened to God and went to the stream. He was all alone, but he knew that God was with him.
Now comes the exciting part! God had a special plan to provide for Elijah. Every morning and night, God sent ravens—black birds—to bring bread and meat to Elijah. Imagine the ravens flying in, and in their beaks they had food for Elijah! So Elijah always had enough to eat and water from the stream.
Elijah trusted God and knew that God was watching over him. No matter how alone he felt, God cared for him and gave him everything he needed.
Message of history
God cares about us, no matter where we are. We can always trust Him, because He will provide for us.
Bible passage
The story of Elijah and the ravens can be found in 1 Kings 17:1-6:
“And Elijah the Tishbiter, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, ‘As surely as the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, neither dew nor rain shall come these years unless I say so.’ 2 And the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 3 “Go away from here, and turn to the east, and hide yourself by the brook of Critus, which flows east of the Jordan.” 4 And it shall come to pass that you shall drink from the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to take care of you there. 5 So he went and did according to the word of the Lord. he went away and stayed by the brook Krit, which flows east of the Jordan. 6 And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.”
