Once upon a time there was a man named Enoch. Enoch lived a very long time ago, when people still lived for a very long time. When Enoch was 65 years old, a son was born to him, whom he named Methuselah.
Enoch was a very special person. What made him so special was his close relationship with God. Enoch loved God very much and always wanted to be close to Him. He walked with God—not literally, as if they were walking together, but Enoch lived his life the way God pleased. Every day he talked to God and listened to His word. It was as if they were best friends.
The Bible tells us that Enoch walked with God for 300 years. He was so intimately connected to God that one day something very extraordinary happened: God took Enoch to Himself. Instead of dying a natural death, as most people do, Enoch was suddenly taken in by God. He was no longer on earth, but with God in heaven.
The other people around him must have been amazed, because they could no longer see or find Enoch. But they knew that Enoch was with God because he had lived a life full of trust and love for God.
Enoch’s story is short, but it shows us something very important: Enoch loved God so much that God took him to Himself in a very special way. It teaches us how beautiful it is to live our lives with God as if we were always in His presence.
Message of history
When we live our lives with God and trust Him, we can be in a beautiful friendship with God. God wants to walk with us every day.
Bible passage
The story of Enoch, who walked with God, can be found in Genesis 5:21-24 (Schlachter 2000):
“Enoch was 65 years old when he begat Methuselah. And Enoch[1] walked with God, after begat Methuselah, for 300 years, begat sons and daughters. And all the days of Enoch were 365 years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was no more, for God took him away.”
