Jesus once told a story:
Once upon a time there was a woman who had ten silver coins. She held her coins very tightly, because they were very important to her. But one day – oh no! – she counted: “One, two, three … nine?” One coin was missing!
The woman’s eyes widened. “Where is my coin?” she asked. She looked at the table. Nothing. She looked under the carpet. Nothing! She looked behind the door. Still nothing!
Then she took a lamp and turned on the light so that she could see better. She swept out every corner with her broom. She looked under every pillow and searched very carefully. Her heart was beating fast. She was desperate to find her coin again.
And then – oh, what was that? There was something shining in the corner! The woman bent down and shouted happily, “I found her! Hooray!”
Out of joy, she ran to her friends and said: “Come, rejoice with me! I found my lost coin!”
Then Jesus said, “So God also rejoices over every man who comes back to him.”

The parable of the lost penny is found in Luke 15:8-10:
“Or what woman who has ten pieces of silver, when she loses a piece of silver, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search diligently until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, “Rejoice with me, for I have found the silver that I had lost.” In the same way, I tell you, is joy before the angels of God over a sinner who repents.”
