Jesus and the Widow of Nain – A Miracle of Resurrection

Divide:

In a small village called Nain, which was located in a pretty valley, there lived a woman who was very sad. This woman, a widow, had already lost her husband, and now her only son had died. The woman was all alone and cried a lot, because she didn’t know how her life would go on without him.

On that day, a large group of people made their way out of the city, and they carried the boy out to bury him. The widow and many other people from the city followed sadly.

At the same time, Jesus came near the village with His disciples. Many other people also followed Jesus because they heard that He healed the sick and told wonderful stories of God’s love.

When Jesus saw the mournful procession and watched the widow weeping, His heart was filled with great compassion. He wanted to help the woman. Jesus went to her and said gently, “Don’t weep.”

Then Jesus came closer and touched the frame on which the boy was lying. The porters remained standing. Everyone was excited and looked at what Jesus would do.

With a loving and powerful voice, Jesus said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”

Then something wonderful happened: the boy sat up, alive and well! He began to speak and looked around in amazement. Jesus took the boy and led him to his overjoyed mother. The people were amazed and in awe. They praised God and said, “A great prophet has arisen among us, and God has visited His people!”

News of this miracle spread quickly throughout Judea and the surrounding area. Everyone learned that Jesus had great compassion and the power to bring even the dead to life!

Bible passage

The story of Jesus and the widow of Nain can be found in Luke 7:11-17:

“And it came to pass the next day that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples and a great crowd went with him. And as he approached the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and many people from the city went with her. And when the Lord saw her, he was moved with her inwardly, and said to her, “Do not weep. And he went up and touched the bier; but the porters stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, get up.” And the dead man sat up and began to speak; and he gave it to his mother. Then fear seized them all, and they praised God, saying, “A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited his people.” And this speech about him spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding area.”
